A Celebration of Rev. Dr. Andrea Asebedo -
Retirement Celebration

Saturday, August 16, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Andrea Asebedo, Senior Minister and Pastor at the Spiritual Enrichment Center, who has served the church since 1981 announced her retirement effective August 15, 2008. Reverend Andrea has served the local church which became known today as the Spiritual Enrichment Center in 2003 when she became the sole pastor.  Through the years she created a number of local programs to enhance community development including the initial bookstore which has become known as the Wayfarer Bookstore, the Children’s Church Program, launched the local task force for “A Season for Nonviolence” approximately eight years ago and has served Religious Science International, in a spectrum of capacities including Board of Directors, Assistant Director of Youth for more than 20 years, Director of Youth for 2 years, spearheaded a curriculum re-design of the children and youth programs in 2004 and currently serves on the Ethics Committee.

In 1999 Andrea was awarded an honorary doctorate from Religious Science International for her work with youth and became an ordained minister in 1993, which is a designation by Religious Science International as a “minister for life.” Andrea will remain in community at the church as a retired ordained minister dedicating the focus of her time to her psychotherapy private practice in Redding and Mt. Shasta as well as presenting workshops and seminars.

The retirement celebration, "The Journey", representative of Andrea’s life long spiritual journey will be held on Saturday, August 16th at 6:30-9:30 PM.  Friends, colleagues and members of the church are invited to attend the potluck buffet. The attire is summer casual with “The Journey” as the celebration’s theme. Live music, dancing and an honoring of Andrea’s will complete the evening.  Anyone interested in contributing to “Andrea’s Retirement Fund” to help cover the celebration expenses is invited to send a check labeled “Andrea’s Retirement Fund” to the Spiritual Enrichment Center, 1905 Hartnell Avenue, Redding, CA 96002.

Annual Parking Lot Sale

Friday, Sept 19, 2008 from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. &
Saturday, Sept 20 from 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

We are poised to once again host the largest fund-raising opportunity of the year for our Center – our Annual Parking Lot Sale, which made the Center over $6,000 last year!  To raise the maximum amount of money for our Center requires a major effort from us all.

This year we ask you to:

  • Tell your friends about the sale and ask them if they have good stuff to donate.

  • Donate good stuff yourself.

  • Sign up for a shift the week before the sale to help organize the good stuff.

  • Sign up to help for a shift at the sale of the good stuff.

  • Buy some good stuff at the sale.

As you can tell – we think there will be a lot of good stuff!  What is good stuff?  We notice that top selling items in previous years include baby furniture, furniture, jewelry, toys, camping gear and tools.  Clothes and books sell well, too; however, could we ask that only really good, clean things be donated?  We also notice that large appliances and computers aren’t selling so we regretfully cannot accept these items.  Thank you so much for your assistance in making this year’s Annual Parking Lot Sale a delight.

We can receive items starting Sunday, Sept 14 after Services.

International Day of Peace

Sunday, Sept 21 at 7:00 p.m.

“A day that observes global cease fire and nonviolence…an invitation to all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities for the Day.”  Amended UN Resolution September, 2001.

This is a day dedicated to the celebration and observation of peace.  The Spiritual Enrichment Center will be honoring the day with an evening service dedicated to Peace which will include meditation and music.  As part of our Peace Center activities, Rev. Sue MillerBorn will officiate at the service.  We invite you to come and hold the consciousness set by the United Nations that Peace Prevails on Earth.  The service will include the opportunity to share in prayer, silence and reflections for Peace.  This beautiful and quiet evening will fill your soul and help hold the light of peace for the world.

The public is invited to attend.  For more information call the Spiritual Enrichment Center at 221-4849.

A Day of Healing

Saturday, Sept 27 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

The Spiritual Enrichment Center’s Health Ministry team has organized A Day of Healing.  Come and experience multiple modalities of healing in the quiet candlelight of our grace-filled sanctuary.  We have many gifted healing practitioners who will be providing such healing modalities as massage, reiki, reflexology, healing touch and, of course, spiritual mind treatment.

Your day begins with focusing on one area of your life that you choose to have healed and released.  It could be a physical ailment, an emotional or mental issue or perhaps you would like to manifest something else in your life.  You write that down on a slip of paper and carry it with you.  You then sit with a prayer practitioner for spiritual mind treatment.  From there you move through different stations in the Sanctuary to receive 45 minutes of hands-on healing.

The entire day is carried out in as much silence as possible.  Once done with your healing treatments in the Sanctuary, you drop the slip of paper into a flame releasing everything written on it.

A Day of Healing--a day of rejuvenation, a day of love.
Please join us.  Namaste.

$50 per person, held in the Sanctuary. For more information call the Spiritual Enrichment Center at 221-4849.
