Empty Bowls Project
"Love, Serve, and Remember"
Empty Bowls is a grassroots
effort by artists and craftspeople in cities and towns across the country to
feed the hungry in their communities. The Spiritual Enrichment Center is proud
to be a participant in this national project to help alleviate hunger.
Throughout this year, we will be holding events for members and friends to
create bowls for the project.

History
of the Project
In 1990 a high school art
teacher in Michigan helped his students solve a problem. They were searching
for a way to raise funds to support a food drive. What evolved was a class
project to make ceramic bowls for a fund raising meal. Guests were served a
simple meal of soup and bread, and were invited to keep the bowl as a reminder
of hunger in the world.
By the following year the originators had developed this concept into Empty
Bowls, a project to provide support for food banks, soup kitchens, and other
organizations that fight hunger. Since then Empty Bowls events have been held
throughout the world, and millions of dollars have been raised to combat
hunger.
Your Help
is Needed!
The Empty Bowls event is
over for 2008, but it's not too soon to start planning for next year's event. We
will need people to help with
many aspects of this project, from creating bowls, to making soup, to simple
administrative tasks. Contact the office at 221-4849 or
office@reddingsec.org.

Bowls 2009
Bring us your bowls, and help feed the hungry! The artwork you contribute will
be purchased, and all proceeds will be used by local hunger organizations.
Any bowls and objects will be accepted, but the individual sized bowl is the
most useful. Think in terms of a soup bowl: height from 2"-4", diameter from
4"-6", volume 1.5 - 3 cups. Bowls do not need to be functional
(however, if they are not food-safe be sure to indicate that on
your creation). They can be
created by potters, woodturners, glassblowers, fiber artists, metalsmiths,
painters, sculptors, and artists and craftspeople of all kinds!
Donations of bowls will be accepted at the Spiritual Enrichment Center.
